1. Q. Can I run AOIS locally instead of using Corporate Computer's hosting services?
  A. Yes, you can...but we don't recommend it. AOIS is a large, integrated application that runs concurrently on several servers and requires close monitoring. In addition, there is no cost advantage in running AOIS on your own servers.

2. Q. How many people at our school will need access to AOIS?
  A. Generally, we recommend one primary AOIS user and one backup user. Both users should complete the AOIS training and should have access to the documents that need to be submitted to AOIS.

3. Q. Our school is managed by an educational service provider. Can they use AOIS?
  A. Yes.  We have many educational service providers who use AOIS every day.

4. Q. Is there a limit to the number of schools I can monitor in AOIS or to the number of documents I can store?
  A. No, there is not. AOIS is very scalable and can handle a large number of schools and an even larger number of documents.

6. Q. What happens if Corporate Computer gets purchased or goes out of business?
  A. Central Michigan University owns the intellectual property of AOIS. Corporate Computer periodically provides CMU with source code updates, so they always have executable code available for implementation should CC cease to exist. In addition, CMU has a long-term agreement with Corporate Computer to provide AOIS for our clients. If a new owner met CMU's requirements, they could continue to serve Corporate Computer AOIS clients.

7. Q. Is AOIS web-based?
  A. Strictly speaking, no, AOIS is not "web-based".  AOIS runs on dedicated servers housed in our secure datacenter and is accessed via the internet. Clients use Remote Desktop technology to access the system, which provides greater security than what is available on the average web site.

8. Q. Are my records backed up?
  A. Yes. Corporate Computer backs up changed files nightly and does full-file back-ups each weekend. In addition, we do monthly and quarterly back-ups that are retained for one year. Back-up content is stored off-site in a secure vault.

9. Q. How long will I be able to see documents from prior years?
  A. As long as you want. AOIS does not limit access to prior year documents.

10. Q. Why do you have a cost per year based on number of schools and an additional cost per user per month based on the number of people who will have access to AOIS?
  A. Essentially, it's a question of service vs. access. The per school/per year cost covers the services AOIS provides, including initial training, document indexing and storage, and technical support. The per user/per month cost covers the Microsoft licensing fees associated with accessing the AOIS system.

11. Q. Can I access AOIS when I am not in the office?

  A. Yes, it does, provided that the Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection client for Mac is installed. Instructions for installing the client can be found on the Downloads page of this site.

13. Q. Do a school's documents stay in the system if the school is closed?
  A. A closed school's documents remain in AOIS until the Authorizer/Sponsor expressly requests that the data be removed. Generally, when a school is closed, we "deactivate" the school--making it "invisible" to AOIS users--and write the documents to a CD or DVD that is sent to the Authorizer/Sponsor.
